Zippo Ukpeep and Maintenance

Although Zippos have a life-long guarantee, like everything else they may need adjusting, refilling, replaced parts, or some other type of repair. If you have time, some of these things can be easily done by yourself.

Replacing the lighter fluid is a simple task. The only thing required is a can of Zippo lighter fluid. The first step is to flip open the lighter and remove the inner casing from the outer casing. At the bottom of the insert, lift the felt pad to reveal the packing material in fuel chamber. Saturate the packing, but do not overfill because lighter fluid could leak out. After filling it up, put the lighter back together. Try to avoid contact with the fuel. For safety reasons I recommend washing your hands afterwards. In some cases, people have gotten lighter fluid on their hands without noticing, and when they tried to light up their Zippo to make sure it worked, their fingers caught fire.

A common Zippo repair is replacing the flint. This will need to be done when there isn't a spark when you try to light your Zippo. First, open the lighter and pull out the inner casing from the outer casing like you do when replacing lighter fluid. Next, locate the screw on the bottom and remove it. Pull out the flint spring and replace the old flint with a new piece. Put the flint spring back in its original spot and tighten up the screw on the bottom. Finally, just set the inner case back into the outer case of the Zippo. If the flint sticks, roll it a few times, and try lighting again.

For all repairs, The Zippo Manufacturing Company will fix it or replace it for free. They stay true to their motto which is 'It works or we fix it free'.
