Night Vision for Private ConsumersNight vision equipment is making its way in to the hands of the general public more than ever before. Night vision goggles, binoculars, video cameras, spy cameras, and scopes are items that have been gaining popularity. As the technology is on the climb, more night vision products become available. They feature many practical uses that the public can benefit from.
One form on the rise is night vision featured in automobiles. Mercedes and BMW offer this option in some of its luxury cars. A night vision camera is installed at the front of the vehicle. When it's hard to see outside, the video screen located in the dashboard can be helpful in spotting pedestrians and keeping the driver informed on what's ahead.
It is important to know that there are certain types of night vision equipment which are currently against the law for public use. Guns featuring night vision scopes used for hunting are a form that are against the law. Also illegal is use of night vision for pilots flying private airplanes. While it may seem like a good idea to have night vision capabilities while flying in the dark, only military and law enforcement pilots can do so. They are required to complete NVG flight training to be authorized to use this equipment.
If you plan on taking your night vision goggles or other night vision equipment to other countries, a license may be required. If you are a citizen of the U.S., under the U.S. Government International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) night vision equipment can not be exported to other countries without a license. This license can be attained from the U.S. Department of State.
As you can see, different types of night vision equipment can benefit the general public. But, please be aware that there are certain prohibited types as well. It's recommended to check your laws to understand the legality of night vision where you live.
