Extra Accessories for the Metal DetectorSome accessories are meant to make your life much easier when you are treasure hunting. If you simply expect to use your new metal detector without headphones, extra batteries or a GPS, then you may be in serious trouble! Here is a list of the items which you need to make your treasure hunt an "enjoyable success":
Headphones
Most modern metal detectors are compatible with external headphones. Headphones per se are very useful since they can help you detect even the weakest sound which you would otherwise ignore if you were to rely in the metal detector's built-in speakers.
Extra Battery
This is not important, it is imperative! I have learnt this the hard way - after a long walk to a place which took me hours to arrive - batteries out. There is nothing more annoying, really - buy extra batteries.
GPS
This is optional. If you are going somewhere new, this is something you should seriously consider to buy - especially in the wilderness. However, if you are going to treasure hunt in your backyard, I don't recommend a GPS. Keep reading for more reasons why a GPS is a good idea.
Weather Report
Before going on a treasure hunt, check Weather.com or any other weather source. Make sure that it won't rain anytime soon. You should additionally consider the purchase of a radio to be alert... just in case. Some accessories are meant to make your life much easier when you are treasure hunting. Pocket Radios
This is optional and only really required if you are going to treasure hunt with a partner. It is important that you are coordinated and can easily share your finding and coordinates (GPS come in handy here). Bring as many pocket radios as you need - and make sure they are powerful enough so you will always have a way to communicate with your peers.
Treasure Hunting Attire
As mentioned in the the Treasure Hunting Risks, the best thing you should carry with you is not a good metal detector, nor pocket radios - but proper attire. Make sure to wear boots and leather jeans to be on the safe side - you never know what's out there.
Cellular Phone
Though some people don't really give any importance to this, it is imperative that you always bring a cellular phone with you. There's too many things which may happen to you, and if you have no way to communicate with anyone else, the worst could happen. For this reason, I strongly recommend this AND a good GPS.
