How do Night Vision Goggles Work?Night vision goggles use complex technology for their functioning. Night vision goggles can be either Image Enhacement or Thermal vision.
Image enhacement goggles work with a very basic concept which is similar to changing the contrast of a picture. They, with a dim amount of light, make the image become green. Since green is the color that human beings can see better (and with more tones), it is then arranged for a human to easily see distance and objects.
The main principle governing image enhacement goggles, is the same principle used by the TV - cathodic tubes. The image is then transmitted to the "Image intensifier" which is where the image is actually turned into green and then transmitted to the user.
Thermal vision goggles are a bit more complex to make and understand. They compare the "heat" of many given objects. It is obvious that this design has many flaws, though it is still useful for certain purposes. They work by basically using energy from its own to detect heat - the greater the heat, the closer the object is. Due to this, it is often difficult to detect big objects which are closer to us.
